Lee Johnson has expressed feelings of astonishment following Cody Rhodes’ departure from AEW.
Rhodes, also known as The American Nightmare, exited AEW in the early part of 2022, opting to return to his old stomping ground, WWE. Since his return, he has ascended to the position of Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.
In his guest appearance on the “Ruthless Talk” podcast, Johnson admitted he was genuinely taken aback when his close friend made the move to WWE. He commented,
“I was just surprised I suppose. That’s the only way I can think to describe it. But I also understand that Cody had to do what he felt was right for him. And I will always have a great amount of affection for him. So yes, surprise was my initial reaction.”
He went on to add, “I’m certain other wrestling fans and colleagues likely had a similar response.”
