Leading AEW Wrestler States He Disliked His Time In ROH

Prior to signing up with All Elite Wrestling, Austin Gunn had a quick stint in Ring of Honor under the old ownership of Sinclair Broadcasting. The child of Billy Gunn worked for the promo from June to September of 2019.

Speaking on a current edition of the “Under The Ring” podcast, the AEW wrestler discussed why he “disliked” his time in the business and confessed to not being prepared at that point.

In addition, the “Ass Boys” member exposed what he gained from the experience.

On not enjoying his time there: “I’ll keep that long story brief: I disliked my time in ROH. Not due to the fact that of my experiences, even if I wasn’t all set to be on my own, and I needed to relocate to Baltimore to go to the developmental system. And as soon as I arrived, I was residing in a hotel for 6 months, and my entire schedule turned upside down. I wasn’t extremely independent already, I wasn’t cooking my own meals. I was eating way too much, I wasn’t pressing myself to exercise every day. I would lock myself in the hotel space. And although I dealt with excellent challengers like Brian Johnson and Dante Caballero and in the primary occasion, Dak Draper– male, it simply, it didn’t seem like house to me. It didn’t seem like that’s where I required to be, that’s where I was expected to be.”

On what he gained from the experience: “I believe it wound up being a terrific experience, since it revealed me how quick things can leave hand if I do not hold myself responsible; if I do not work extremely difficult and push myself. I didn’t comprehend what it took to be in this company. Yeah, and after that by the time I left there and after that returned to Orlando, I got myself in equipment and prepared. And after that it took me 2 months to prepare for the launching with AEW, and I have not recalled. I’m not slamming ROH, it simply wasn’t for me at that ideal time. I was depressed and I wasn’t enjoying and it sort of spiraled out of control. I called my father and stated, ‘Hey man, this isn’t working out, I do not believe I’m prepared to be here. I’m getting home today regardless.'”
