Former WWE diva, Vickie Guerrero, had at one time been in line to take home the WWE Women’s Championship, reveals Layla El, who was previously allied with Guerrero on-screen.
Guerrero once held the role of manager for LayCool, the WWE tag-team constitutes of Michelle McCool and Layla.
In a recent conversation on the “Heated Shenanigans” podcast, Layla disclosed that bagging the championship title in 2010 after defeating Beth Phoenix came as a complete surprise to her. She expressed,
“It was a dream of mine. I always dreamed about it. I thought, ‘Yeah, I could do it,’ but then, in the back of my head, I’m like, ‘Yeah, you’re not going to do it. There’s no way. You ain’t got a chance.’ The actual plan was to give the title to Vickie. They were going to give the title to Vickie because Beth was injured. So, that whole day, that’s how we were planning.”
Although Guerrero did not ever clinch a championship, she received the prestigious ‘Miss WrestleMania’ award in 2009, taking over the mantle from ‘Santina Marella.’
Layla concluded her stint at WWE in July 2015, losing her final match to WWE diva Paige (also known as Saraya.)
Guerrero’s tenure at AEW ended in the last year. Her time there was marred by controversies due to some comments addressed to her daughter, Shaul, following allegations of sexual assault by Vickie’s husband.
