Former WWE participant, Layla El, has recently opened up about her time on the WWE roster and her subsequent regret over certain aspects of her career during an edition of the “No-Name Wrestling” podcast.
Winning the Diva Search in 2006 marked the beginning of Layla’s association with WWE. She remained with the organization until she decided to hang up her boots in 2015. In her years with WWE, Layla managed to make her mark, though she now admits she has a few things she wishes she could have done different.
During this enlightening podcast interview, Layla shared her career reflections, confessing,
“I’ve voiced this earlier, but I really wanted to be a part of ‘Total Divas.’ I feel disheartened for not being able to achieve that, primarily because it coincided with the tail end of my career. I deeply regret accepting the title upon returning from a career-threatening injury. In hindsight, I realize that was perhaps a decision made in haste.”
She further admitted her character stagnation, saying,
“I regret the lack of evolution in my character. On reflection, I realize I should have reinvented my persona upon my return… I believe in my euphoria of overcoming the injury, I lost sight of the need to keep evolving. I failed to put in the required work to craft a better persona and establish myself as a bigger Superstar.”
Layla made history as the final person to hold the original Women’s Championship during her stint with WWE.
In the course of the podcast, Layla also expressed a keen desire to partake in the upcoming Women’s Royal Rumble match, indicating her readiness for a comeback in the wrestling arena.
Layla also reminisced about her time in the ring with Snooki at WrestleMania 27 in 2011, during the chat. For more insights into her journey, tune into the podcast video embedded below.
