WWE hopes that the match between Cody Rhodes and The Rock happens when Rock returns to WWE, something the company has teased and is reportedly planning.
The Final Boss had previously mentioned his intention to come back and target Rhodes, regardless of holding the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Many have speculated it will take place at WrestleMania 41.
Dave Meltzer reported the following in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:
“At this point the show is scheduled to feature Cody Rhodes vs. The Rock. Dwayne Johnson’s idea is WWE title vs. People’s title. Those in WWE have noted that there is no guarantee Rhodes will be champion at that time, which is where the people’s belt comes in. But so many things can change over the course of a year.”
