Latest Update on Drew McIntyre’s WWE Contract Status

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer gave the latest update on Drew McIntyre’s WWE status as it’s been widely known that McIntyre’s contract was set to expire after WWE WrestleMania 40.

It is believed within WWE that a new agreement will be reached eventually. McIntyre won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40 only to lose it to Damian Priest, who cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase moments later.

Meltzer wrote, McIntyre’s deal expires in late May. It actually expired time wise at the end of 2023 but they tacked on several months due to time off for an injury. Those in WWE expect he’s signing noting, seeing it as enough of a given he’s being advertised on shows post contract expiration. The feeling was that while he had talked of taking time off if not creatively fulfilled, that he very much is now and is seen as one of the company’s top full-time wrestlers with Rhodes and Rollins. There is also the belief WWE talent is less likely now to opt for AEW.”

In the latest update from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it has been revealed that Drew McIntyre’s WWE contract is set to expire after WrestleMania 40. However, it is widely believed within WWE that a new agreement will be reached eventually.

Drew McIntyre recently made headlines by winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40. Unfortunately, his reign was short-lived as Damian Priest cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase moments later and took the title away from him.

According to Dave Meltzer, McIntyre’s contract technically expired at the end of 2023, but WWE extended it due to time off for an injury. Despite his contract expiration, McIntyre is still being advertised for shows post-WrestleMania 40, indicating that a new deal is likely in the works.

There were rumors that McIntyre might consider taking time off if he didn’t feel creatively fulfilled. However, Meltzer reports that McIntyre is currently satisfied with his position in WWE and is seen as one of the company’s top full-time wrestlers, alongside the likes of Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.

Interestingly, Meltzer also mentions that there is a growing belief within WWE that talent is less likely to leave for rival promotion AEW. This could be seen as a positive sign for WWE, as they strive to retain their top stars and prevent them from jumping ship to the competition.

Drew McIntyre has been a prominent figure in WWE since his return to the company in 2017. He has had multiple championship reigns and has proven himself to be a reliable and talented performer. His potential contract renewal will undoubtedly be welcomed by WWE fans who have grown to appreciate his contributions to the company.

As McIntyre’s contract expiration looms, fans will be eagerly awaiting news of his future with WWE. Whether he signs a new agreement or decides to explore other opportunities, one thing is for sure – Drew McIntyre’s presence in the wrestling world will continue to be felt.
