Latest Update on Bryan Danielson’s Injury and AEW Contract Status
– ADVERTISMENT –

As we previously reported here on eWn, Bryan Danielson suffered a broken orbital bone last week on AEW Dynamite with Claudio Castagnoli announcing the news on Saturday’s episode of Collision.

On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer shared an update on Danielson’s current status following last week’s injury. He said,

“I mean, he’ll do these incredible matches for a while, and then he gets hurt. He lays out for a couple of months and comes back. When he had the concussion last year, I mean there was fear that was it and he may not be able to come back. Tony Khan even said once that, you know ‘I was at this point that I may have to pay him for the remainder of his contract and just accept that, you know it’s over because of the concussion.’”

It was also noted that Danielson appears to be dealing with different injuries every time he is out of action.

While Danielson’s AEW contract officially expires in September 2024, it’s impossible to know at this time whether AEW President Tony Khan would extend the deal by adding more time to the contract.

Danielson had previously announced that 2024 would be his final year as an active wrestler.

Meltzer added, “Hopefully he can finish the next however many months he has. He didn’t put a timeline exactly on next year when he’s gonna be done. You know, in theory his contract would be over in September. Obviously, Tony could extend it, but Tony Khan isn’t going to be a dirty guy if Bryan wants it to be over, you know that he’s gonna be finished at the end of this contract, and he wants to be finished. There’s nothing you can do if the guy wants to quit.”

Finally, it was said that Danielson could potentially lose the opportunity to compete at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18 owing to his broken orbital bone.

“Yeah, it’s sad….I don’t know if he makes it to the Tokyo Dome show…It may be touch and go if he had surgery for January 4th. Hopefully, he can do it,” Meltzer said.

Bryan teamed with Castagnoli to defeat CHAOS (Kazuchika Okada & Orange Cassidy) last week on AEW Dynamite.

Bryan Danielson, also known as Daniel Bryan, is a professional wrestler who recently suffered a broken orbital bone during an episode of AEW Dynamite. This injury was announced by Claudio Castagnoli on Collision, and it has raised concerns about Danielson’s future in the wrestling industry.

Dave Meltzer, a well-known wrestling journalist, provided an update on Danielson’s current status during the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio. Meltzer mentioned that Danielson has a history of getting injured after putting on incredible matches. Last year, when Danielson suffered a concussion, there were fears that he might not be able to return to wrestling. Tony Khan, the president of AEW, even considered paying Danielson for the remainder of his contract if he couldn’t continue due to the concussion.

It is worth noting that Danielson seems to deal with different injuries each time he is out of action. Despite these setbacks, Danielson’s AEW contract is set to expire in September 2024. However, it is uncertain whether Tony Khan would extend the contract by adding more time. Danielson himself has previously announced that 2024 would be his final year as an active wrestler.

Meltzer expressed hope that Danielson can finish the remaining months of his contract without any major injuries. He mentioned that while Tony Khan could potentially extend the contract, he would respect Danielson’s wishes if he wants to retire at the end of the current deal.

Unfortunately, Danielson’s broken orbital bone may prevent him from competing at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18. Meltzer expressed uncertainty about his ability to recover in time for the event, which takes place on January 4th.

In his most recent match on AEW Dynamite, Danielson teamed up with Castagnoli to defeat CHAOS (Kazuchika Okada and Orange Cassidy). This victory showcased Danielson’s talent and resilience despite his injury.

As fans, we can only hope for Danielson’s full recovery and that he can continue to entertain us with his incredible wrestling skills.
