On a recent appearance on the “Hawk’s Next” podcast, the topic of conversation turned to the challenges wrestlers face while transitioning from one gimmick to another in today’s times. Professional wrestler Lance Archer was there to discuss this subject and more.
Here are few standout points from their discussion:
Archer talked about the struggle wrestlers face when trying to redefine their persona: “As soon as you do one thing it’s almost impossible to escape that.” He stated.
Discussing the example of Elias who attempted to shed his previous persona and reinvent himself as Ezekiel, Archer observed, “He tremendously did well at essentially becoming a different person, however people didn’t accept it as they knew who he really was.”
Furthermore, Archer pointed out that several of the industry’s big names, like Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kane, and Kevin Nash, underwent numerous transformations in their careers. He opined, “You think of some of the biggest names in the business, we were discussing about… they went through multiple gimmicks that you can find. I believe it was more feasible back in the days even though most of their shifts were televised. However, now with easy accessibility, it proves to be a hindrance to move beyond any specific gimmick.”
During the podcast, there was even a clip shared from “The Hawk’s Nest #2: Muderhawk Mailbag” which is available for viewing online.
