On a recent edition of the “The Hawk’s Nest” podcast, AEW’s Lance Archer spoke about the recent addition of Shelton Benjamin to AEW, as a part of The Hurt Syndicate.
Archer also reminisced about his time with Benjamin on the WWE ECW brand in 2009, recalling,
“[Benjamin was] consistently an exceptional athlete. You can see it in the matches he’s had throughout his career. There are tales of him walking the ropes unaided. … I heard an anecdote that he once, just for the fun of it — and I don’t believe this was during a match, but more so during training — walked all four corners.”
In another recent podcast, the “Talk Is Jericho”, Big Bill discussed his match with HOOK that happened on an episode of AEW Collision, leading up to the AEW All In: London 2024 event.
About the surprising fan support he received in Cardiff, Wales, Big Bill shared, “Very unexpectedly, the fans began cheering for me… They’ve witnessed my journey, the highs and the lows, and especially the unconditional lows, and my return from those. These cheers felt like their way of letting me know that they’re proud of me.”
Discussing the crowd’s reaction when he tried portraying the villain, Bill shared, “They began rooting for me and I was like, ‘What’s happening?’ Despite all my tricks, they never stopped cheering. It was a reality check for me…”
Reflecting on this unexpected reaction, Big Bill added, “You feel recognized, which feels great, but when you’re in a contest where the objective is to portray HOOK as the hero going into [All In], and it’s failing, that’s a whole different story.”
Chris Jericho commented on the whole situation stating, “It felt like a surreal moment, if you could hit pause and rewind life a bit, I would have suggested, ‘Let’s make this a championship match and crown Big Bill the winner.’ That would’ve garnered the largest cheer ever.”
