World Wrestling Entertainment has crowned a new United States champion as the title transferred during the March 7, 2025 episode of Friday Night SmackDown!
In the marquee match of the evening, LA Knight seized his chance to reclaim the title from Shinsuke Nakamura, who had previously defeated him for the belt at Survivor Series: WarGames on November 30, 2024.
In the preceding months, Knight had danced around the possibility of a rematch, and finally secured his shot last week by emerging victorious over Santos Escobar, then Jacob Fatu and Carmelo Hayes, solidifying his status as the rightful No. 1 contender.
During the match, an unexpected turn of events took place when Knight dodged, causing Nakamura to accidentally aim his mist attack at referee Charles Robinson, resulting in Robinson’s inability to count a roll-up pinfall for Knight. But, in an exciting development, Nakamura’s effort to strike Knight with a steel chair proved unsuccessful. Knight delivered a stunning BFT onto Nakamura and the chair, and with a new referee in charge, the pin was counted, and Knight was declared the champion once more!
