During the latest episode of WWE SmackDown, LA Knight emerged victorious in a triple threat contest, securing his role as the chief challenger for the U.S. Championship.
In his comments following the match, Knight likened himself to WWE’s ‘Iron Man,’ citing his dependability inside the wrestling ring. LA Knight commented,
“The Iron Man, I guess you could call me. I did grow up a Cal Ripken guy, so maybe I am the Iron Man. I got a little Tony Stark in me, some would say. So maybe I am the damn Iron Man. I got to show up every damn week. Every single week I’m here. When I was a US champ, everybody, everybody got a shot.”
In Knight’s debut SmackDown match, he triumphed over Santos Escobar. Subsequently, he saw off Jacob Fatu and Carmelo Hayes, earning himself a shot at the title.
Interestingly, prior to this week’s SmackDown, Knight was already being pitched for a title match, however, modifications were made to the agenda at the last minute.
Back in November of the preceding year, during the WWE Survivor Series: WarGames, Knight surrendered his U.S Championship to Shinsuke Nakamura.
LA Knight expressed his intent in a tweet,
“Without a shadow of a doubt. Old Glory needs to be on TV every week, and the Champ isn’t holding up his end of the bargain. Soon the number 3 will turn into 2.”
