The rise of LA Knight in WWE was discussed during his appearance on Busted Open, which led to a conversation about his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship Match against Roman Reigns at Crown Jewel 2023.
Knight noted that he was worried about whether he was being pushed too strongly and whether fans would resent him for it.
“There’s so many different ways to look at that (Bully Ray’s assessment that maybe Knight is ‘sick & tired’ of being put on the backburner & not getting the push he deserves)… Maybe there was a little too far of a push a little too fast and that’s not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but a little bit of a steady build going into a championship match or something like that. As far as going to the U.S. Championship or the Intercontinental Championship or something like that but jumping straight into the WWE Championship back at Crown Jewel was a little fast to where I almost worried that it might make people go, ah! They’re not gonna do this? They’re not gonna shove him down our throat like this? Are they? Because there is that potential. At the same time, right now, I think I’m in a damn good spot… I don’t know if I’m selling myself short so much as I’m just cautiously optimistic.”
LA Knight, also known as Eli Drake, has been making waves in the WWE since his debut. With his charismatic personality and impressive in-ring skills, he quickly caught the attention of fans and critics alike. However, his rise to the top has not been without its challenges.
During a recent appearance on Busted Open, LA Knight opened up about his concerns regarding his push in the company. He admitted that he was worried about being pushed too strongly and whether fans would resent him for it. This discussion arose in the context of his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship Match against Roman Reigns at Crown Jewel 2023.
Knight acknowledged the different perspectives on his situation, including Bully Ray’s assessment that he might be “sick and tired” of being put on the backburner and not receiving the push he deserves. He expressed that while he appreciated the opportunity and did not want to look a gift horse in the mouth, he believed that a more steady build towards a championship match would have been beneficial. Knight suggested that starting with the U.S. Championship or Intercontinental Championship and gradually working his way up to the WWE Championship would have been a more cautious approach.
The wrestler also acknowledged the potential backlash from fans if he were to be pushed too quickly. He recognized that there is always a risk of fans feeling like he is being forced upon them, which could lead to resentment. However, Knight expressed his confidence in his current position and stated that he believes he is in a “damn good spot” at the moment.
Knight’s cautious optimism reflects his understanding of the delicate balance between pushing a talent too quickly and ensuring their long-term success. While he appreciates the opportunities he has been given, he also recognizes the importance of a gradual progression in his career.
The rise of LA Knight in WWE has been an intriguing journey filled with both excitement and apprehension. As he continues to make his mark in the company, it will be interesting to see how his career unfolds and whether his concerns about being pushed too strongly will be addressed. Regardless, LA Knight’s talent and charisma are undeniable, and fans can expect to see more great things from him in the future.
