On the latest episode of his “The Kurt Angle Show,” WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle reflected on the controversial ‘JBL at the Mexican Border’ promo angle that helped elevate Layfield’s Judgment Day 2004 feud with Eddie Guerrero for the WWE Championship.

In the infamous promo, JBL was seen kicking out undocumented immigrants at the Mexican border as a shot at Guerrero.

On Eddie’s reaction to it: Surprisingly, he was pretty quiet about it. I don’t think he had much to say. But Eddie took it, took it really well, and he became the victim of it. Yeah, he did well, it really worked well for him. So I understand why he didn’t speak up and say, you know, this, this is crap. You know, you guys are being racist. He was like, hey, ‘I’ll play the victim and I’ll make the fans feel for me.’

On getting away with angles like this: “But in those days. Everything was blurred [the lines] back then, definitely. But you could get away with it back then.”
