On a current episode of the Kurt Angle Show podcast, the WWE Hall Of Famer discussed his 3rd damaged neck. It took place in late 2003 when Brock Lesnar struck Angle with a steel chair.
This injury triggered Angle to miss out on about 6 weeks prior to going back to in-ring action at the Royal Rumble.
“Well, what took place was Brock Lesnar struck me over the head with a chair, and he brought it. I suggest, when I inform you he brought it, he truly brought it. The important things is, me and Chris Benoit both got struck with a chair by Brock that night. Chris, prior to the match began, he informed Brock, ‘Hey, swing sideways on my head since I had surgical treatment on my neck, and I do not desire you to come over directly over the top.'”
“I didn’t inform Brock. He strikes Benoit sideways, and Benoit’s neck is alright. He reviews the leading and strikes me best on top of my head as difficult as he could, and I broke– 3 damaged vertebrae. I had bone chips in my neck, and I had 2 discs that moved into my spine. I kind of messed myself up once again. This is the 3rd time I broke my neck.”
