WWE legend Kurt Angle has stated his belief that John Cena deserves to bow out with a shot at the WWE World Championship in his final match. This could pave the way for Cena’s 17th title victory.
Cena, who surprised wrestling fans with a sudden appearance at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view event this year, has revealed his retirement from in-ring competition will occur in 2025.
In a discussion with MuscleManMalcolm, Angle was queried about his ideal opponent for Cena’s last WWE match. Angle opined,
“Roman Reigns would be an ideal opponent. Considering where Roman was at the beginning, I recall a promo where John firmly put him in his place. A match between Cena and Roman would create a riveting storyline, should they decide on it for Cena’s finale.”
“For Cena, the stakes should be the World Title. With 16 World Title victories in WWE, no one compares to him. Ric Flair achieved 16 victories, but he did so with NWA, WCW, and WWE. It’s only Cena who has won all 16 titles in WWE. He definitely deserves a title shot.”
Cena’s brush with the WWE World Championship dates back to 2017, while his latest attempt for the U.S. Title at WrestleMania 39 in 2023 was not successful.
Both new and familiar names, including The Miz, CM Punk, Randy Orton, and Bron Breakker, have stepped forward as willing participants for Cena’s retirement ordeal.
Recently, Kurt Angle shared his recollection of a rather unusual event with Vince McMahon. For more on this, you can go to his interview with eWrestlingNews.com.
