WWE may have wanted Kurt Angle to manage Matt Riddle, but the promotion wasn’t willing to pay Angle enough to make it worth his time.
On a recent edition of his “The Kurt Angle Show” podcast, the Olympian explained why he ultimately said no to the idea of managing Matt Riddle. He said,
“The money was not good. They didn’t want to give me that much money and it was like, ‘Okay. I would love to manage Matt, but you got to give me a little bit more money than that.’”
Angle was released by WWE in 2020 but officiated the NXT Fight Pit match between Riddle and Timothy Thatcher. He has made appearances for WWE ever since.

WWE fans were buzzing with excitement when rumors started swirling that Kurt Angle might become the manager of Matt Riddle. However, those hopes were quickly dashed when Angle revealed that the promotion was not willing to pay him enough to make the opportunity worthwhile.
Angle, a former Olympic gold medalist and WWE Hall of Famer, discussed the situation on a recent episode of his podcast, “The Kurt Angle Show.” He explained that while he would have loved to manage Riddle, the financial offer from WWE was not satisfactory.
“The money was not good,” Angle said. “They didn’t want to give me that much money, and it was like, ‘Okay. I would love to manage Matt, but you got to give me a little bit more money than that.'”
This revelation sheds light on the behind-the-scenes negotiations that take place in the world of professional wrestling. While fans often focus on the in-ring action and storylines, there is a business side to the industry that can greatly impact the decisions made by wrestlers and management.
Angle’s decision to turn down the opportunity to manage Riddle is understandable from a financial standpoint. As a highly accomplished and respected figure in the wrestling world, Angle likely expects to be compensated accordingly for his time and expertise.
Despite not becoming Riddle’s manager, Angle has still maintained a presence in WWE. After being released by the company in 2020, he returned to officiate the NXT Fight Pit match between Riddle and Timothy Thatcher. Angle has made sporadic appearances for WWE since then, showing that there is still a working relationship between him and the promotion.
Fans who were hoping to see Angle and Riddle team up will have to wait for another opportunity. However, this situation serves as a reminder that professional wrestling is not just about the on-screen action. Behind the scenes, negotiations and financial considerations play a significant role in shaping the direction of the industry.
