Oh, it’s true that it’s now been a full 25 years since Kurt Angle clenched tightly to those Olympic gold medals for the very first time. The WWE Hall of Famer displayed intensity, integrity and intelligence when he stood atop of the podium at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. Not only that, but the Clarion University Golden Eagle and Pittsburgh native did so with a broken freakin’ neck. Angle took to Twitter to reflect back on the extremely historic occasion for both the amateur and pro wrestling world.

“This week 25 years ago I had the proud opportunity to represent my country in the Olympic Games, where I captured the GOLD! Something I dreamed about since I was 7 years old. Dreams DO come true when you BELIEVE in yourself,” Angle first Tweeted out several days ago.

Today, Kurt is celebrating the day the best way he can and that’s with his family.

“On this day 25 years ago, I won the Olympic Gold in freestyle wrestling. #withabrokenfreakinneck,” he Tweeted out. “No better way to spend my 25 year anniversary than with my beautiful family……My wife and kids said I should buy a boat now. We shall see.”

While at Clarion, Angle was a three-time NCAA All-American and in 2016 was inducted into the International Sports Hall of Fame. Angle had plans to compete at the Olympics once more in 2012 in London but suffered a knee injury before the trials went down.
