On a recent episode of his “Keepin’ It 100” podcast, Konnan, who books for AAA, discussed some professional disagreements he has had with AEW President Tony Khan.
Konnan remembered an occasion in late 2022 when Khan decided to remove Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo from AAA’s Noche de Campeones event. This decision was a response to another AEW wrestler testing positive for COVID-19. Khan had chosen Melo to be a substitute contender.
Konnan revealed his disbelief at Khan’s response during this incident, expressing his difficulty in understanding Khan’s dissatisfaction.
Konnan found Khan angered when he referred to the affected wrestler as “some chick” on his podcast, thinking it was less disrespectful than expressly saying her name. He recalled his interaction with Khan sharing, “Tony was extremely upset about this, and I couldn’t comprehend why he was so upset. I thought to myself, ‘You have several female wrestlers, why choose her?’ When I said on the podcast, ‘some chick tested positive because I figured he didn’t want me to mention her name. And when I spoke to him, he asked, ‘What do you mean by saying some chick?’ I believe if you mention ‘chick,’ they get the picture. ‘Hey, there’s a good looking chick,’ is that offensive?”
Konnan went on to say, “I am going to be very non-specific about what I am about to tell you, and keep in mind I brought it up today. Very soon, you will see what I am referring to, what goes around, comes around. And when it does, you’ll understand what I was hinting at. So, enjoy your little fun while it lasts.”
