Fans who have been wowed for years by Kofi Kingston’s attempts to avoid being eliminated from the Men’s Royal Rumble match have John Morrison to thank.
Since 2012, Kingston has found new and inventive ways to avoid being eliminated but is yet to win the 30-Man match.
Speaking on After the Bell, Kingston said that his spots only came about thanks to the former ECW World Champion.
“I always got to give credit to John Morrison because he was one who did it first when he got knocked off the apron and Spider Man’d down to the barricade and jumped in [in 2011.] Then everyone’s like, ‘Well, that was crazy. That was awesome.’
“The next year, he wasn’t with the company anymore. So I was like, ‘Oh, let me go ahead.’ Every year, it’s been just an honor to do something that the people look forward to because I think that at the crux of our industry and being successful in our industry, you really are just trying to find a way to stand out.”
Kingston will compete in this year’s Men’s Rumble match and was the first person to be announced for the upcoming match.
The 2023 Royal Rumble Premium Live Event will take place next Saturday at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
