Kevin Owens Seeks To Emulate The Usos As Tag Team Champions

Recently in conversation with Alex McCarthy, Kevin Owens shared that he was concerned about trying to follow the The Usos’ reign as the Undisputed Tag Team Champions alongside Sami Zayn, considering what they have been able to achieve with the titles.

“One of the things that I was concerned about before winning them was when we did get them, I want to live up The Usos’ title reign. Because they did a lot for these titles. They worked very hard to get them to a point where they could main event WrestleMania and a lot of credit goes to them for that, So honestly, so far in our run, I don’t feel like we’re anywhere near that.”

Owens lavished praise on The Usos for bringing back tag team wrestling to the forefront again, to the point that the four men main evented Night 1 of WrestleMania 39 earlier this year. Sharing his desire to do justice to The Usos’ title reign by emulating them, KO said,

“I really want to work very hard so that when it’s all said and done with these titles and somebody else takes them from us, I want the run to be talked about in the same vein as The Usos. That’s the challenge in itself because they’ve been really incredible.

Those guys… If anything, now, they’re getting their flowers. But, in my opinion, they’ve been underappreciated for a long time. So that was a big concern for me, I just want to live up to work they’ve done and we’re obviously working our heart out to make sure that happens.

That’s the main concern for us; make sure these titles stay at the forefront of the stories and being as important as they have been for the past few months.”

While the Undisputed Tag Team Championships (and now even The Usos) are not on the ‘Island of Relevancy’ anymore, it is safe to say that after years of irrelevancy, tag team wrestling is back where it belongs in WWE.
