On a recent episode of the podcast “Insight with Chris Van Vliet,” WWE’s Kevin Owens took a deep dive into some memorable moments in his wrestling career including a segment with Vince McMahon on SmackDown and a match with Steve Austin.
Owens reflected on his bout with Austin. He revealed that after the match, his earlobe was notably swollen due to Austin’s strikes. Despite the painful aftermath, he emphasized that Austin’s professionalism shone through. He compared Austin’s technique and care in the ring to Bret, mentioning how both wrestlers have great pride in not hurting their opponents seriously, despite the appearance of their matches.
When it came to the iconic SmackDown segment with Vince McMahon, Owens didn’t hold back. He revealed how McMahon provoked him off-screen to ensure a real physical reaction during their headbutt scene. And when the time came, Owens didn’t hesitate to dive headfirst into the moment, leaving a bloody Vince McMahon in the ring. An unseen moment that Owens cherishes is an encounter with Stephanie McMahon backstage where she ordered him offstage in a heated fashion.
He also appreciated Stephanie’s unwavering support while he was in NXT. According to Owens, Stephanie, along with many trainers and Hunter, were heavily involved in the NXT shows and were incredibly proud and supportive of the rising talents, creating a special energy around that generation of NXT.
On another note, the podcast also featured AEW wrestler Samoa Joe, who shared his experience with MJF during his WWE NXT days. He recounted a memorable segment they shot together and expressed his surprise at the heights MJF has reached in his wrestling career. He humorously talks about a prank where he shoved MJF without giving him a heads up, which was caught on camera and ended up being used for the show.
