Speaking with Ariel Helwani, WWE Superstar Kevin Owens discussed his future in wrestling and his plans following his inevitable retirement from the ring.
You can check out some highlights from the interview below:
On his future in wrestling: “If you had asked me this six months ago, I think I would have said, ‘I could see myself wrestling five or ten more years.’ The last few months of that, I feel it’s changed. I might still wrestle for five or ten more years, but I wonder if there’s not a place for me somewhere else, another role, as opposed to being in the ring. I definitely don’t see myself away from the wrestling business anytime soon.”
On enjoying commentary and helping others: “I get such enjoyment out of doing commentary. I get so much enjoyment out of helping other people with their stuff and seeing it work or trying to analyze why it didn’t work and figuring out how to do it better. I could probably do both for a while. I know I have a year and a half left on my contract as a performer here, for sure. I don’t know how I’m going to feel at the end of that contract. I love wrestling. I love being in the ring.”
On not really having to top his last two years: “Part of it is, the last two years have been so amazing. How am I going to top it? I don’t really have to top it because I’ve been trying not to wonder what’s next and what’s next week. At the same time, as much as I’m enjoying my time in the ring, I can feel it. I had a talk with Triple H about it. ‘I think I’m getting more out of helping other people than my own stuff.’ He goes, ‘Yeah, that happened to me.’ I don’t know. I say this now and might still be doing it in five years. I have no clue.”
