2025 proved to be fruitful for Kevin Owens, despite a truncated schedule due to the unfortunate setback of a neck injury.
Owens had to dome his competitive ensemble prematurely due to the necessity of neck fusion surgery, leaving his comeback to the ring uncertain. Consequently, he had to back out from facing Randy Orton at WrestleMania 41.
Sharing his thoughts on the “My Mom’s Basement” podcast, Owens noted, “Regardless of the shortened year, when I look back, I am content with the past four months. The matches, the hype-talks, it was all thrilling. Engaging in a banter with Matthew McConaughey was a pretty cool feat. Even if I have to wait till 2026 for my next match, I feel satisfied remembering 2025.”
In another scenario, Samoa Joe recalls his feud with Brock Lesnar back in 2017. During his time on the “Insight” podcast, the ex-AEW World Champion looked back nostalgically at the historic rivalry.
Here are a few highlights from the podcast discussion:
Regarding Brock Lesnar’s surprise at Joe’s fervor: “Yes, Brock was taken aback too. I mean, I executed plenty of promotion lines with Brock. Brock enjoyed the turbulent energy I brought into bouts and he welcomed that. He knew what I was up to when I made bold, aggressive statements. This uneasy tension creates intrigue and interest in matches, making the eventual showdown even more thrilling.”
On his statement to Lesnar, “look at me when I’m talking to you”: “Sure, I might have been a bit too drastic creatively. But when I returned backstage, Hunter found it fantastic while Vince’s reaction was a placid ‘Good job’. He possibly wanted a diverse onstage image. But, when I am energized and into character, I just let myself go with the flow.”
