As we previously reported here on eWn, a matchup between AEW wrestler CM Punk and NJPW talent KENTA has been discussed for this month’s AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door II event.

However, KENTA has firmly stated that he would fight Punk only if he gets “the bag” from AEW President Tony Khan.

In response to his rumored match with Punk, KENTA tweeted the following on Friday,

“Oh hell no. Tell Tony Khan, GIVE ME THE BAG.”

When a fan suggested booking CM Punk vs. Tetsuya Naito instead, KENTA replied,

“Sounds good to me. They are not gonna give me the bag. So Punk vs Naito. Do it. idc”

KENTA followed this up with another tweet, once again declaring that he wants a significant payday to fight Punk at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door II. He tweeted,

“Yes. I’m scared that they gonna make this happen without any bag #GiveKENTATheBag”

Punk is set to make his AEW return on Saturday, June 17 on the inaugural episode of AEW Collision, which will be held at the United Center in Chicago, IL. Punk will team with FTR against Samoa Joe and Bullet Club Gold in the main event of the show.

AEW is yet to announce Punk for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door II. The show takes place on June 25 at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

In other news, AEW is slated to return to Cincinnati, OH for a September episode of AEW Dynamite. This will be the company’s first show in the city since October 2022.
