Kenny Omega, a well-known figure in professional wrestling, underwent a surgical procedure for diverticulitis earlier this year. Currently, he is navigating the gruelling journey to recovery, focusing on regaining his strength and fitness levels, and resuming the training needed to return to the wrestling ring at the elite level.
Omega has resumed training in collaboration with his Golden Lovers teammate, Kota Ibushi. Both wrestlers are preparing for their eagerly awaited comeback to AEW.
During an interview with NJPW1972.com, Omega expressed that he hasn’t received the green light to get back into the wrestling ring. However, he stated that he would quickly return once he got the necessary authorization.
Diverticulitis has kept the former AEW World Champion in a forced hiatus from the ring for nearly ten months.
Points of interest from the interview include:
Regarding the possibility of wrestling at NJPW x AEW Wrestle Dynasty: “Should I be medically cleared tomorrow, I shall waste no time in returning to the ring. Though much remains uncertain, I would be ecstatic to be part of an event like Wrestle Dynasty.”
On his desire to collaborate with Hiroshi Tanahashi: “Making a comeback is my first and foremost priority. However, facing the Bucks is something I aspire to do once I’m back. I desire vengeance, but I also aim to do it honorably. When Tanahashi and I faced each other for the first time, the title was at stake. In 2019, the stakes were high for us both. Now, with us as allies, I hope our next bout would see us wrestle as partners. I’ve been perceived as the villain for a significant portion of my career, especially in AEW. I resorted to deceit to clinch the AEW title, but that’s not the image I want to leave behind with our younger fans. If Tanahashi and I step into the ring again, I hope it will be as his ally.”
