During his recent guest appearance on the “Insight With Chris Van Vliet” podcast, Ken Shamrock shared experiences from his early WWE days, including a memorable incident when he accidentally broke Vader’s nose, and the reactions from other wrestlers backstage.
In the podcast, Shamrock divulged some key moments:
Regarding the incident with Vader’s nose, Shamrock explained: “I’m a professional who just tried to go in and do what seemed normal to me. Usually, I’m used to sparring, but not hurting people, and that’s what I did with Vader. Unbeknownst to me, I ended up breaking his nose.”
When asked about the aftermath and how Vader responded: ” Later, I found out that he retaliated when he struck me hard, and I hit the floor pretty hard. Like a hard chair shot that makes people think, ‘Wow, Vader really hit him, he must have ticked Vader off.’ I was clueless. What? Then I watched the incident again and thought, ‘That’s frankly amazing.’”
On Bret Hart’s reaction when he returned backstage: “When I got back to the locker room, Bret Hart was the first one to approach me. He said, ‘Man, that was really good.’ I was left bewildered as it didn’t sit right with me. I’ve been a combatant all this while and wouldn’t normally behave this way.”
On how Vader reacted: “Vader confronted me and congratulated, ‘Brother, well done, man. Good job.’ Surprisingly, he disclosed, ‘I think you broke my nose.’ And I was like, ‘What?’ He elaborated, ‘When you landed the knee.’ I apologized and went, ‘Oh, sorry.’ He reassured, ‘Bro, don’t stress, it was a fantastic match.’ I wasn’t too keen when I did it. However, upon rewatching it, I realized, ‘Wow, that was impressive,’ and that was my first real interaction working with someone to that extent.”
