In a recent interview with Rewind, Recap, Relive, ex-WWE superstar Ken Anderson, previously recognized as Mr. Kennedy, revealed a tense moment from his early wrestling career. During his first bout with The Undertaker, Anderson was asked to execute a piledriver — a maneuver officially prohibited by Vince McMahon.
Following the end of the match, Anderson found himself under scrutiny from McMahon for using the banned move, spotlighting the conflict between a wrestler’s creative discretion and official company restrictions.
Anderson detailed the incident, “During my first match with Taker, as he kneeled on the ground, he requests, ‘give me a piledriver.’ I assumed he planned to counter by backdropping out of it. So I get ready for the move, but instead, he insists, ‘God damn, give it to me.’ Moving Taker, who’s a hefty 270 pounds, required strength. But I managed to secure his head between my legs and provide as much support as I could with my arms.”
His tour down memory lane continued, “I performed the piledriver. Once the match ended and I went backstage, I was promptly summoned by Vince. He confronted me, ‘I know where that came from. I know Taker instructed you. He was trying to make you look better. But I only permit two wrestlers to perform piledrivers in this company, and you’re not one of them.’”
