Former WWE star Karlee Leilani Perez is developing a new television series with the Executive Producer of “Power,” Mark Canton.

Matt Grobar of Deadline first reported the news and provided a description of the cop drama.

The show, titled “Miami River Cops,” is the first of potentially several projects produced by Perez in collaboration with Canton’s Atmosphere Entertainment.

“I could not be more excited to join this wonderfully talented team in creating this series that will powerfully connect the 80’s with modern times,” said Mark Canton. “It will be filled with twists and turns as the audience, through the eyes of the protagonist and his cop cohorts, experience the impact of losing touch with their sworn duty to protect and serve and instead turn to the dark side.”

Perez noted Canton’s emphasis on empowering women through his programs, and she shared his excitement for working with him.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to share this story with the world,” Perez stated. “I appreciate Mark’s continued effort to empower women such as myself. Mark and Dorothy Canton are brilliant creatives and I look forward to collaborating with them.”

Perez, formerly known as Maxine, joined WWE in 2009 before she left the company in 2012. She competed on the third season of NXT, and she remained a regular presence on the show. She also worked for TNA and Lucha Underground.
