Beginning next year, Josh Alexander is set to be a free agent, and he acknowledges that Scott D’Amore’s abrupt exit from TNA Wrestling partially influenced his decision.
In a recent edition of the “Insight” podcast, Alexander delved into his resolution to opt for free agency and how D’Amore’s ouster from TNA played a role in it.
Alexander revealed, “In a way, yes. When I initially heard about his dismissal, I shed tears. I won’t deny it. I reminisced about these past five years and all the ups and downs. When I started, my relationship with him was minimal; all he had done was secure my visa and provide me with an opportunity. However, from that point onwards, our relationship transformed into one of trust, and he offered me immense support and guided me, connecting me with the right people to enhance my skills in storytelling, promos, and wrestling in the ring. He introduced me to certain individuals who, though he wasn’t obligated to, he knew would be beneficial for me.”
He went on to say, “Upon his departure, you had to realize, we were all incredibly loyal to this guy. The entire locker room felt this way. Especially with TNA’s rebranding, morale was high. Everything came crashing down suddenly. How were we supposed to react to that and how did it make us feel? The bond we had cultivated seemed like it was dissolving – losing a mentor was a significant blow. However, this is the nature of the wrestling business. Although his departure played a part in my contemplation about free agency, even without it, I would have probably considered it. Scott, during the negotiations for my three-year contract that was set to end this February, said something along the lines of, ‘Either you’re going to become so valuable that I can’t afford you, or I will make sure you stay here with a good pay, but your true worth will be much higher because I understand your potential.'”
