Veteran presenter Jonathan Coachman has issued strong comments in response to the emergence of the viral internet wrestling character ‘CoKane’. Coachman did not mince words, describing the gimmick as the most foolish he has come across in his career.
CoKane is a variation of the legendary character Kane, sporting a white costume instead of the traditionally red outfit. As part of his act, CoKane is known to use a mystifying white powder, supposedly enhancing his can-do attitude and vitality during fights.
Coachman vented his disapproval of the concept via social media. He chastised not only the recklessness of the gimmick but also its potential to encourage negative behavior among impressionable fans who might attempt to mirror the act.
His tweet reads, “If he is trying to get noticed congratulations you succeeded. But this is without a doubt, and it’s not close, the dumbest gimmick I have ever seen in my career. And he’s not alone. The promoters, the announcers, and the fans on here saying “this is exactly what we need in…”
Jonathan Coachman is not the only significant figure in wrestling who has expressed concerns over the handle. Dustin Rhodes, another well-known name in the industry, has also stated that he views the character as disgraceful.
The CoKane persona follows a recent trend of spoofed Kane characters including ‘Blue-Kane’, with a winter-themed act, and ‘Gayne’, a character that promotes LGBTQ+ acceptance and positivity.
