This week’s episode of WWE SmackDown started with a statement from John Cena, who declared that the unfolding events were all part of his grand strategy. He outlined how he had carefully orchestrated the situation, including pushing CM Punk to a challenging position ahead of Night of Champions 2025 title match, forcing Punk to either admit his duplicity or exit.
His monologue was briefly interrupted when Cody Rhodes entered the ring. He was shortly followed by Randy Orton and LA Knight. Each of them confronted Cena, trading verbal jabs at him. Cena, considering these confrontations to be below him, began to exit only to be taken by surprise by an attack from Ron Killings. Security personnel intervened immediately to separate them and ensure stability.
In a surprising turn of events, CM Punk showed up on the same episode of WWE SmackDown, and interestingly John Cena made a second appearance that night, this time seeking answers and honesty.
After being unexpectedly assaulted by Ron Killings earlier in the evening, Cena was back in the ring demanding for a re-match against Killings. Unexpectedly though, he received honesty from CM Punk instead of “R-Truth.”
Punk made the Kentucky crowd explode with excitement as he made his entrance, confronting his long-time adversary. He gave Cena a final offer- turn away from his dark path and let the fans celebrate the legacy he had left behind. Cena turned down the offer, leading to Punk’s reaction.
Punk clarified that he had no objection to following Cena to Saudi Arabia for their WWE Championship face-off at Night of Champions, vowing to pursue him to Mars, or even hell, to conclusively prove who among them was superior. Punk acknowledged Cena as one of the greatest ever, but insisted that he himself was part of the pantheon. Punk promised to take down Cena as a tribute to legendary figures like Terry Funk, Harley Race, Bret Hart, and Eddie Guerrero.
Pointing out the role reversal since their renowned 2011 feud, Punk maintained that he had always seen Cena for what he truly was— and always knew he could defeat him.
As Punk left the scene, Ron Killings came out to launch another assault on Cena. With Punk watching from the stage, Killings overpowered Cena and had him in the STF, leaving with his final remark –“I’m sorry. The truth hurts.”
In conclusion, Ron Killings is getting his rematch against John Cena.
After multiple ambushes on Cena by Killings during this week’s episode, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis made an official announcement. He granted Killings a match against John Cena in the next week’s episode of SmackDown.
