John Cena On His WWE Career: It’s Not Over, But It’s Not As Active

John Cena isn’t shutting the door on his WWE in-ring career, he’s just not as active as he once was.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Cena was talking about his “Elbow Grease” series of children’s books and mentioned that they are suitable for the young WWE audience. Following up, Cena noted that he still considers himself an active part of WWE, just not as active as he normally would be.

“With Elbow Grease books, I have a very young audience in WWE. A lot of kids, a lot of families, and as my in-ring career is not as active—it’s not over, but it’s not as active—I wanted to continue to send messaging to those younger viewers because so many times parents have said ‘your ‘Never Give Up’ words have helped my son or daughter. ”

Cena went on to explain why he started a book series, noting that there’s cool stuff like monster trucks and motorcycle but there’s an underlying message too.

John Cena has competed in one WWE match since January 2019, as he squared off with Bray Wyatt in the Firefly Fun House match at WrestleMania 36 in April. He’s been busy building his film resume in his absence from wrestling, scoring roles in Fast And Furious 9 and The Suicide Squad as well the TBS revival of ‘Wipeout’ and the newly-announced ‘Squad’ spinoff series ‘Peacemaker’ on HBO Max.
