Pro wrestling fans were taken by surprise when John Cena made an unexpected appearance at WWE Money In The Bank’s 2024 pay-per-view event to announce his retirement from the spectacular world of wrestling, scheduled for 2025.

As the leader of Cenation, Cena revealed that he would make appearances in three key events before finally putting up his boots – namely WWE Royal Rumble 2025, Elimination Chamber 2025, and the grand WrestleMania 41.

In the subsequent media interaction post the show, a potential retirement match against Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was posed to Cena.

Cena responded, “Indeed a great question. There’s never a true end to the business in WWE, which is why this announcement might seem unanticipated as I’m trying to wrap things up. I rarely pay heed to the expectations which aren’t in my control. I’ve always tried to manage what is within my capacity, and I don’t have the authority to choose my opponents. The thrill of challenging myself, and weaving stories with the cards I’ve been dealt with, is what keeps me going. The anticipation lies in the stories that are yet waiting to be told and who might just make an appearance. We’ll have to wait and see.”

Previously, Cena and The Rock squared off at WrestleMania 28 and WrestleMania 29, with both wrestlers securing a win each.

Continuing his interaction, Cena added, “The current roster is incredibly talented. So, who haven’t I had an opportunity to face? Well, everyone. That is what would make these last few matches I have left even more exciting, the questions about what tales we are going to weave. I am eagerly looking forward to that.”
