Why does Joey Janela get a TNT title shot? According to Janela, it’s because Darby Allin asked for the match with him.
On Wednesday night, All Elite Wrestling confirmed Allin would defend his TNT Championship on next week’s episode of Dynamite, and the decision was met with plenty of questions about why Janela was the challenger. As it turns out, Janela is well-aware of the feedback about his current status, posting the following to Twitter on Thursday night. The “Bad Boy” not only said that Darby asked for match, but his detractors are just crying because he’s living the life they dream of.
“Why does Joey Janela get a TNT title shot, When’s the last time Joey got a win on tv” is the phrase of the of the last 2 days. It’s not like CODY did an open challenge series for the belt with RANDOM dudes Lmfaooooo… DARBY wanted this match, and THE BAD BOY IS BACK! @aew
When other people do things it’s fine but when it involves Joey Janela it involves a lot of fans crying! Probably because I look alot like you but the difference is I get to wrestle on tv, have a super hot Girlfriend , eat lobster when ever the fuck I want & don’t care!

For what it’s worth, Janela has won his last two tag team match appearances but has yet to have his first singles match in AEW this year. According to AEW, his overall record in the company stands at 17-23, with his last singles win coming against Marko Stunt on the November 11, 2020 episode of AEW Dark. So while fans might not understand why Janela is getting a title shot, the champ called his shot, and we’ll see it go down this Wednesday on TNT.
