Jim Ross: ‘Full-Time Wrestlers Shouldn’t Be Booking Shows’

Jim Ross believes the role of being a professional wrestler and a professional wrestling booker should be kept very separate.

During an episode of his “Grilling JR” podcast, the AEW commentator discussed the Hollywood Blonds, the WCW tag team of Brian Pillman and ‘Stunning’ Steve Austin. He said,

“I thought ‘Boy, those guys were magic. I think they would’ve revolutionized the tag team scene and would’ve become one of the greatest tag teams of all time.”

At WCW Clash of the Champions 23 in 1993, Pillman and Austin faced Arn Anderson and Ric Flair, and the Hollywood Blonds would not last much longer as a tag team.

Ross spoke about what the pair could have done had they remained a team, and expressed his concern over wrestlers also acting as bookers. He said,

“I thought they could be a great main event level tag team, but that was not the consensus within all the decision-makers. And that happens a lot, Connie, when you’ve got wrestlers in charge or involved in the booking. It’s not objective … It’s just not healthy. It wasn’t healthy then, and it sure as hell not healthy now.”
