On a recent episode of his podcast “Grilling JR”, WWE Hall of Famer and AEW commentator Jim Ross offered his thoughts on Bryan Danielson’s wrestling career following his match with Jon Moxley at AEW’s 2024 WrestleDream.
Below are some noteworthy moments from Ross’s podcast:
Commenting on his reaction following Danielson’s defeat at WrestleDream, Ross said, “I found myself unable to speak, unsure of the words I needed to utter to further enhance the moment. It was clear, from the words of Danielson, that he would stop wrestling the day he lost the championship. His loss implied, I recycle his words very seriously, just like any other wrestler I have encountered. Having said that, I didn’t know what to say… I knew I couldn’t add any value. The visuals and the ambiance were sufficient for viewers to understand the narrative. This is why I refrained from commenting at the very end. My fellow commentator Excalibur couldn’t hold back his emotions. I did not emote as deeply, but I truly commend his zeal.”
Talking about the match, Ross shared, “The match was top-notch. A beautiful narrative was weaved. It was powerful and arousing. If Moxley can ignite such a fervor in Bryan, then kudos to him. It’s not that Bryan lacks intensity, but this match took things to another level. Moxley managed to get Bryan to step out of his comfort zone. Bryan was aware that losing meant abandoning professional wrestling full time. It indicates that he doesn’t mind wrestling occasionally. However, there is also a possibility that he may wish to change course, reclaim the title, and then retire. His future course of action is uncertain at the moment, but for now, his wrestling days are over. Despite this, fans always hope for a comeback. Bryan is an exemplary professional who is honest, hardworking and dedicated. Today, I admire him more than I did last week. It was indeed an evening filled with intense emotions. I believe the PPV was remarkable.”
On the International Title three-way match, Ross commented, “The three contenders exceeded all expectations. They pushed themselves to the limits, taking risks and elevating their performance. I was truly impressed- in no way this signifies disrespect for the other wrestlers but Ospreay is phenomenal. I took great pleasure in being a spectator watching from our changing room.”
