During the recent AEW All In London 2024 event held at Wembley Stadium, Bryan Danielson emerged victorious over Swerve Strickland, capturing the AEW World Championship. This exciting update was discussed during a current airing of the “Grilling JR” podcast, hosted by AEW commentator Jim Ross.
In the podcast, Ross shed light on Danielson’s journey, remarking on his first signing, “There’s no hidden agenda. Many might not be aware, but I was the one who facilitated Daniel Bryan’s first contract. He, along with a select few others, acquired their initial training at Shawn Michaels School in San Antonio, where I had signed him to his initial deal. The starting pay wasn’t extravagant, though considering he didn’t have any cash flow, it was valuable for him. Our arrangement allowed him to afford housing in San Antonio and he received excellent coaching from Shawn [Michaels]… That was around 25 years ago and since then he’s come a long way.”
Speaking about Strickland’s performance during the match, Ross asserted, “Swerve demonstrated stellar professionalism and seemed fully focused to leave a lasting impression. The essence of being a skilled worker is knowing how to handle a loss in such a way that minimizes the impact while maximizing its relevance. I believe he embodied that spirit during the match by focusing strictly on his performance and not disputing any move. In fact, I had the pleasure of discussing this with him during the day. I appreciated the full-on professionalism he displayed in making Bryan’s transition with the title smooth and believable. He demonstrated what truly defines a professional.”
