Jim Cornette Blasts MJF’s Recent Booking, Claims He Is Too Good For His Own Peril

Odd pairings, especially those involving the World Champion and their impending challenger, have long been a tired trope in professional wrestling. However, MJF and Adam Cole have put their own spin on it to make it the highlight of a rather bland AEW Dynamite these past few weeks, especially at a time when AEW’s new show, Saturday Night Collision, is proving to be smash hit in terms of critical acclaim.

Nevertheless, the angle has had its detractors, much like anything and everything in professional wrestling. Among them is wrestling veteran Jim Cornette.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Jim Cornette Experience, the veteran acknowledged that for the first time in a long time, he did not care for what MJF was doing on AEW television. While Cornette admitted that Friedman and Cole’s shenanigans have undoubtedly been entertaining and have drawn big when it comes to TV ratings and merchandise sales, he stressed that the skits seem overly theatrical and inconsistent with both men’s characters, especially the AEW World Champion. Cornette said,

“I have to say that they had done the impossible and made me not give a sh*t about MJF. I just put this on speed search at that point because what the f*ck. I’m sure whatever the rest of the sh*t that they did was, the people in the building loved it and I’m sure that they’re gonna continue to love it. But goddamn it, I can’t watch this f*cking fake silliness with children. It’s, if nothing else, disrespectful to the wrestling business, but also, again, long-term, not good.”

Cornette added that if MJF ends up turning on Adam Cole, Cole will look like “the biggest idiot in the world,” before questioning whether involving the World Champion in a comedic angle was the right decision in the long-term. Cornette also delved into how MJF is too good for his own peril, since being so talented and adaptable means he will now be thrust into angles he shouldn’t be in, even if he can still make it the best thing on the show.

MJF and Adam Cole will challenge FTR for the AEW World Tag Team Championship on this week’s episode of AEW Collision.
