Jeff Jarrett recently spoke with Sports Illustrated about the importance of AEW’s Owen Hart Cup and how much it means to him to be able to bring the memory of the late WWE Hall of Famer to a new generation of fans. Here are a few key points from Jarrett’s interview:

When asked about the Owen Hart Cup tournaments, he said, “Never in a million years did I think we’d be in this place. I get the privilege of introducing my buddy to a wholly fresh set of wrestling fans.”

Regarding AEW shining a light on Hart’s professional legacy, Jarrett becomes quite sentimental. He said, “It stirs up a lot of emotions for me. Back in May of 1999, I could never have envisaged that this many years later I’d still be involved in professional wrestling and be a part of the Owen Hart Foundation, founded by Owen’s wife, which does so much good in the world. Owen’s children, who are all grown up now, carry their father’s legacy with pride. I’m heartened to see Owen being celebrated as a dad, a homemaker, a husband, a sibling, and a professional wrestler, especially here in Calgary, which was a place of great significance to him.”

In the discussion about the finals between Hangman and Danielson, he expressed, “It’s down to the contestant who ousted me versus the contender who I believe is unmatchable in the current wrestling scene. This isn’t meant to belittle anyone else, but I maintain that Bryan Danielson is in a league of his own. He emulates the epitome of professional wrestling. His knack for storytelling is extraordinary, his fervor, his athleticism – Bryan can truly do everything. As such, I feel extremely fortunate and privileged to be a part of this journey.”
