Jeff Jarrett recently discussed on his “My World” podcast the last match of “Macho Man” Randy Savage, which took place at the TNA Turning Point 2004. In this match, Savage teamed up with AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy to confront Jarrett, Kevin Nash, and Scott Hall.
Savage was reserved until the end of the match as he was not comfortable with his physical look.
Highlights from the podcast are detailed below:
About interacting with Randy Savage for the match: “In essence, planning the course of the match required a delicate touch. For instance, asking questions like, ‘Randy, would you like us to start the match?’ was a common approach.”
About keeping Savage for the match’s conclusion: “The idea was initially for me, Jeff, and AJ to tackle most of the match. However, when Randy said, ‘No, I want to join at the end,’ it seemed appropriate in the larger context. Therefore, the five of us embarked on that 15- to 17-minute match and allowed Randy to join towards the end.”
About Savage not being prepared for the fight: “That assumption is more than correct. There was a period, Conrad, when I stopped pondering it. Randy wanted to engage with us. However, there was an eventual realization that there was drama and potential disagreement between Jeff and Jerry. In addition, he also had doubts about collaborating with Scott and Kevin. Not everything seemed to resonate with him.
Between getting on board and the possible paranoia, he was uncertain about his role post-WCW. He was worried that his Macho Man persona might get tarnished. This led to his hesitation in accepting his limitations related to age and decreasing skill levels. Randy deeply cared about the global perception of the Macho Man and was unwilling to compromise it. I understood his concerns.”
