Jeff Hardy has said it would be bizarre to face CM Punk in AEW, over a decade after their intense rivalry in WWE.
The 2009 feud between Punk and Hardy is one of many examples of Jeff’s substance abuse issues being referenced on TV, in contrast to Punk’s straight-edge lifestyle.
The feud would end in September of that year with Punk retaining the World Heavyweight Championship in a match that also forced Hardy out of WWE.
Speaking with “Muscle Man Malcolm,” Hardy considered the possibility of the pair facing off again now that they are both in AEW. He said,
“I haven’t thought about a match that much, I mean, I have a little bit, I just think what I’ve seen more than anything is there’s just a huge moment between me and CM Punk, because of the history alone.
“Ultimately, I could see us having another match and I think it would be bizarre in the best of ways.”
Hardy returned to AEW programming after a lengthy hiatus in April of this year while Punk returned to TV last month on the premiere episode of AEW Collision.
