Jeff Cobb recently spoke with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful. The former Olympian discussed various topics, from his thoughts on NJPW Strong to his highly competitive free agency. Here are some highlights:

On NJPW Strong:

Cobb: “I was super excited, just for the fact that New Japan is probably one of the best promotions I’ve ever worked for, like I love their style. Their masters are always top notch and I always have fun when I wrestle for them, and very heartbroken when I was announced for the New Japan Cup 2020 and Mother Nature decided to rear its ugly head and not let us go to Japan and do the New Japan Cup and I was very sad about that. But when they said, ‘Hey we’re gonna start off with this Lions Break,’ I was like, dude I’m so excited, I’m in, just count me in and put my name down. I was very happy to do it and I’m happier now that we’re gonna do a couple more in New Japan Strong, starting off with this New Japan Cup, USA edition.”

“I had a good kind of rough draft idea of who was coming in but then it really hit me when they released the brackets and I was like oh this is gonna be good. So I was really excited about that and I think after Friday, definitely the fans are excited about it as well.”

On NJPW’s style:

Cobb: They don’t just throw out matches to throw out matches, like everything means something, and everything’s for a reason and you know, I’m happy about that because that’s what…pro wrestling is a sport and you’re entertained by the sport, so I’m liking everything that they do.”

On his free agency:

Cobb: “It’s fun, there’s a point I think it was like maybe right around that AEW time, those appearances, I definitely felt like a new girl in school because everybody was trying to court me, like giving flowers and little chocolates and little love notes. It felt so cool to be wanted like that, but yeah, it was a weird time, it was a great time. It was great to just show up on random things, like I think I wrestled in Atlanta for three major promotions in the span of a month, so that was pretty cool, man.”
