Recently, JD McDonagh made an appearance on the popular podcast, “Insight With Chris Van Vliet”. During the interview, McDonagh expressed his admiration for fellow Irish wrestler Finn Balor and praised WWE wrestler Lyra Valkyria’s successful tenure in the company. His thoughts on these topics among others are highlighted below:
In McDonagh’s words about the influence Finn Balor had on him, he said, “Sheamus was essentially the trailblazer from Ireland who made it big in the US wrestling scene. However, I personally could not entirely relate to him, predominantly because she stood 6’4” tall and had the appearance of a Celtic Warrior. Yet, Balor, just another guy from my hometown Bray, was the one who compelled me to believe that making it in this industry was possible. Interestingly, we even utilized the same wrestling school and mats.”
Regarding Lyra Valkyria, McDonagh expressed, ‘She’s absolutely smashing it. As the IC Champion of the world, she’s doing phenomenal work. I have nothing but admiration for her.’
In related news, former WWE Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Connection member Wendi Richter expressed her hope of Cyndi Lauper being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame’s Celebrity Wing, in a recent episode of the “Ring the Belle” podcast. Recalling ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ as her entrance track, she stated, “I still love that song. Even years later, whenever the fans hear the opening notes of that song, they immediately know who’s about to step into the ring. I genuinely think that it’ll never lose its charm, primarily because of the fun vibe it emanates. However, having Cyndi Lauper associated with the song was what truly made it unforgettable for me.”
Discussing Lauper’s absence from the Hall of Fame, Richter said, “I sincerely hope that she will be recognised and inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame’s celebrity division someday. She’s contributed more to the wrestling world than any other celebrity. So, I believe it’s just a matter of time until the timing is right for her.”
