In a recent episode of his podcast “Hall of Fame”, wrestling legend Booker T took a moment to look back at his iconic King Booker period and commended JBL for his contribution to enhancing the character through his commentary.

Here are some key takeaways from the podcast:

While looking back at the time when Finlay and William Regal took their turns as his knights during the King Booker era, Booker T said, “Back in those days, many people bowed down to me when I had my band of brothers, Finlay and Sir Regal, by my side. What a fantastic team! The night when I officially knighted Finlay and Regal is etched in my mind. It was truly a magnificent night.”

When recollecting JBL’s contribution as a commentator during this period,he said, “When I think of JBL, the most distinct memory that comes to mind is the way he narrated my journey as though he was talking about Paul McCartney’s knighting ceremony. JBL was incredible during my time as King Booker, and in many ways, he played an integral role in making that phase memorable. His commentary was spot-on, and I loved the energy he brought in every time I stepped into the ring. I always wonder if he wrote his commentary beforehand or if it was all spontaneous.”

On the topic of JBL himself, Booker T said, “He’s one of my dearest friends. John joined me in my initial tours in the wrestling industry, including to Korea. He even has a snapshot of that time in his book. I remember wearing a fanny pack and a muscle shirt. It was a blast! We had so much fun during our tag team matches in Korea, especially against the local wrestling champion who was considered as their Hulk Hogan. Both John and I had to face his finishing move, which was an insane experience. Over the years, our friendship has grown and we’ve had countless fun moments together.”
