On a recent episode of the podcast “Something To Wrestle With,” WWE Hall of Famer JBL touched on the subject of fans drawing parallels between John Cena’s unexpected villainous twist, and Hulk Hogan’s legendary nWo twist.
A glimpse of the podcast’s notable moments are as follows:
When discussing fans drawing comparison between John Cena’s heel turn and Hulk Hogan’s nWo shift, JBL commented, “Hogan’s shift actually revolutionized the industry. It might not have completely transformed the industry, but it definitely invigorated it. It ushered us into the Monday Night Wars era – an era of competition unmatched in the industry. I frankly don’t think we’ll ever see anything like it again. As for Cena’s twist, it reminds me of something akin to Dusty Rhodes’s feud with Cody Rhodes.”
Referring to recent criticism about the journey to WrestleMania, JBL said, “About a month ago, people were mocking the build-up to WrestleMania. I admire Triple H’s response to the criticism – bringing up the same points that you, Conrad, and I made just last week. Since the gap between Royal Rumble and WrestleMania has increased, there is ample time for a significant event to happen at this live pay-per-view. That’s exactly what occurred.”
JBL expressed his excitement about there not being a bigger narrative than the current storyline, stating, “You have arguably the biggest movie star in the world involved. I read somewhere that the Rock was the highest-grossing actor last year, raking in approximately million. This may or may not be true… He’s truly the world’s biggest star. Now add to that Cena, a 16-time world champion on the brink of breaking an unbeatable record. Throw in another superstar into this mix, and you have something extraordinary. It’s pure genius. I appreciate how Triple H made his entry and dramatically declared, ‘Are we on the road to WrestleMania now?’”
