On a recent episode of the “Something To Wrestle With” podcast, JBL explored the topic of integrating AAA wrestlers into WWE, the potential of Mr. Iguana, among other subjects. Here’s a recap of the key points discussed during the podcast:

During a discussion on the blending of AAA talents into WWE, JBL expressed positive views: “Absolutely. The integration was splendid. I viewed most of the show through clips. Interestingly, it was widely reported that I should have been present there. I have no idea where that came from; I would have loved to attend, but to my knowledge, it was not planned. So, I’m not sure about the source of such gossip.

“But first, let’s consider what’s happening at that AAA show. Gaining popularity is a tough challenge, no matter where you are. People’s opinion on lucha style is divisive – some like it, some don’t. That’s irrelevant because gaining favor is a tough job, and that’s precisely what these Mexican wrestlers have achieved. Wrestlers like Mr. Iguana, Penta, and many others have managed to carve out their fan bases, which is quite impressive. They are big names in Mexico, and if they could achieve it there, they can surely do it elsewhere. The advantage with these guys is that they have proven their capacity to win favor, a quality that is hard to find. However, I am quite confident about them doing well in WWE. I foresee a surge in merchandise sales due to their appeal. The move to have Dominic defeat one of these guys is pure genius.”

When asked about Mr. Iguana, JBL seemed quite enamored: “Mr. Iguana is fantastic. The kid is hilarious and has a solid command over English. His love for iguanas isn’t part of his gimmick; it’s a genuine passion he explores. I had suggested him to incorporate some creative elements with the iguana, alike Ricky Steamboat did with the dragon.

“But the best part about him is that he is a decent person, well-versed with the wrestling business. He managed to create his niche in Mexico very successfully. He has great potential for merchandising, considering the colorful appearance, the appealing iguana, and his own persona. It’s truly challenging to gain popularity, but he did it well in Mexico. He can perform all the gimmicks people adore, he knows how to integrate the fun, quirky stuffed iguana into his fight – it’s truly remarkable. Of course, to succeed in the United States, he would need to adapt his Mexican style, but I have no doubt in his capability to do so.”
