During a recent guest appearance on the globally-recognized podcast, ‘Something to Wrestle With,’ JBL, a highly regarded figure in the wrestling world, emphatically named ex-WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio, also known as Alberto El Patron, as the current best wrestler on Planet Earth.
Below you can find some key takeaways from JBL’s vibrant conversation on the podcast:
JBL on why he strongly believes Alberto Patron reigns supreme in the wrestling cosmos today: “Look, those fellas in AAA are doing a fantastic job, there’s no doubting that. One of the highest quality shows I’ve ever witnessed was ‘AAA Rey De Reyes 2025.’ The closing match featuring Del Rio (Patron) and El Hijo del Vikingo was something to marvel at. It was hands down one of the premier matches I’ve been privy to this year and possibly in the current decade — it was truly something special. The frequent unexpected interventions, which may not necessarily resonate with the American wrestling audiences, all added to the drama.
Del Rio’s final performance, now under the pseudonym Patron, was just extraordinary. In my honest opinion, Alberto Patron is second to none right now, not only in the Mexican wrestling scene but globally. I bring decades of experience in this business to the table and have seen and wrestled against countless talented performers. Having commentated on most of his WWE matches, I’ve never been so floored by a wrestler’s internal on-point rhythm. Leaders like Shawn Michaels and others of the same caliber are, without a doubt, extraordinary. However, I truly believe that Patron currently stands unparalleled. He’s akin to a ring maestro. His current form is absolutely breathtaking. If you haven’t seen him in action yet, you are missing out on something great.”
JBL’s thoughts on Sam Adonis’s horrible injury: “It was a ghastly sight, frankly one of the worst incidents I’ve seen in my career. It looked appalling. To provide some context for those unfamiliar, Adonis attempted to walk across the top rope and perform a moonsault to the floor, unfortunately, he mistimed it, and things went awry. Although accidents happen, it was a very unlucky one. As a result of the accident, he suffered quite a few injuries. With a dislocated jaw, a broken nose, and several stitches on his lip, he’s now got a more defined face, to put it lightly. Amid all the pessimism, there’s also a glimmer of luck– his teeth remained unscathed, which would’ve been the case had he hit the ground a little bit lower.”
