On a recent episode of his podcast, “The Snake Pit,” WWE Hall of Famer Jake Roberts voiced his discontent about the constraints of being a babyface. Some noteworthy excerpts from the podcast are detailed below:

Discussing his aversion to being a babyface, Roberts said, “It sort of pigeonholes you into a specific sphere where that’s all you can do. It stifles your ability to experiment with different strategies and methods. You’re expected to conform to the fans’ expectations, which I wasn’t fond of.”

When queried about his preference between playing a babyface or a heel, Roberts expressed, “Undoubtedly, I’m a superior heel… I relish being a heel. As a heel, you’re free to try everything and anything. It’s liberating to embark on any path you want, try new stuff, and be comfortable with it.”

Reflecting on his decision to depart WWE in 1992 and join WCW, Roberts admitted, “I should have persevered in the WWF… I would have tackled it more from a business perspective rather than behaving thoughtlessly.”
