In the newest episode of his digital broadcast, “The Snake Pit”, WWE legend and Hall of Famer Jake Roberts shares his perspective on the evolution of steel cage matches, in addition to his past experiences in wrestling.

Here’s a snapshot of the discussion that took place in the podcast :

Discussing his encounters with Hiro Matsuda, Roberts warmly reminisced, “I was chosen to be the referee for Hiro’s matches. These intense face-offs with Danny Hodge were moments of awe for me. Every time I was in the ring with these two titans, it almost felt like I was watching magic unfold. Truly inspiring.”

Discussing the change in dynamic of steel cage matches over time, Roberts reflected, “During my era, a steel cage match was designed for one singular purpose – to keep everyone else out and confine the contenders within the ring. Nowadays, the objective seems to be scaling and exiting the cage – a twist, I feel, takes away from the original premise of the match. Previously, a match wasn’t deemed over until a clear victor emerged within the confines of the cage.”

When asked about his fondness for steel cage matches, he openly admitted, “There was something thrilling about cage matches which I simply loved. The impact of the hard-hitting action, smashing against the mesh – yes, it often left me bloody and bruised, but the adrenalin rush? Worth every second.”
