During the recent recording of “The Snake Pit” podcast, the iconic WWE Hall of Famer, Jake Roberts, shed light on various topics including the use of chops in wrestling, his time with Scott Hall, and more.
The following are key points from the podcast:
Speaking about the use of chops in wrestling, Roberts revealed, “Observing Piper and Flair in the ring was always fascinating. Barely five minutes into the match, they would have blood blisters. By the closure of the bout, those blisters would have been burst, leaving their chests bleeding and raw. This would often become a frequent occurrence with Wahoo.”
Discussing the intense times he spent with Scott Hall at the accountability crib, he shared, “It was undoubtedly a serious period. He was trying to recuperate from a hip replacement and attempting sobriety. I was also fighting for my own sobriety while undergoing shoulder surgery. There wasn’t much room for laughter or fun, our battle was intense… I feel we could have developed a deeper connection; we never reached the stage of becoming brothers.”
Reflecting upon the instances when he questioned if the moves called for were right, Roberts stated, “There have been times when something was called out and it made me question its feasibility. Like this one time with Hercules Hernandez during our fight in Oakland, California. He suggested executing a move involving an armbar and a flying sequence. His instructions were vague and unclear. When I questioned it, he admitted he’d invented the move. The resulting stunt involved a flip with his knee making contact with my head. I instantly vowed to never repeat that. The following day, he had to use crutches as his knee was injured during the stunt.”
